The ISACA Student Group of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura marked a significant milestone with its Annual General Meeting which was held on 12th of September 2024. This significant event which took place at the Old Faculty Boardroom of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce(FMSC), commenced at 12 pm and set the backdrop for a year of growth, leadership, and transformation.
The AGM was a momentous occasion where the newly appointed office bearers stepped into command, ready to drive ISACA’s mission forward. The newly elected leadership team for the upcoming tenure is as follows:
• President – Jayathri Wijewardana
• Vice President – Amaya Amarasinghe
• Secretary – Kavindi Ranasinghe
• Assistant Secretary – Mohanraj Dhudarshan
• Junior Treasurer – Ravindu Shashadya
• Logistic and Operational Managers – Charith Ekanayake, Pankaja Dissanayake
• Public Relations Officers – Keshika Venugopal, Vishan Sooriyarachchi
• Digital Media Managers – Kasun Rodrigo, Inuri Hasanga
• Member Training and Development Officers – Dinali Tirashi, Sanjuna Nimandith
• Co-Editors – Upani Ranathunga, Suwanthika Kanagakumar
Each of these individuals has demonstrated outstanding dedication to ISACA and their leadership will be instrumental in fostering the professional development of members and enhancing the impact of the association within the university.
One of the most significant aspects of this year’s AGM was the discussion and adoption of amendments to the ISACA Constitution. These revisions are expected to strengthen the governance framework of the association, ensuring more streamlined operations and enhanced opportunities for student engagement. The amendments reflect the evolving needs of the student community and align ISACA’s strategies with emerging industry trends. Several key changes were introduced in the updated constitution including:
• Membership requirements: Prospective members must now pass a test conducted by the
executive committee, assessing their knowledge of the ISG constitution and fundamental IT
governance concepts.
• Officer eligibility: The President and Secretary must be third year undergraduates who
have been ISG members for at least two years.
• Faculty Advisor role: The Faculty Advisor must be an ISACA Academic Advocate or a
faculty member from the Department of IT, FMSC, USJ.
• Election process: The nomination and election process has been refined to ensure a
transparent selection of officers.
• Membership termination: A two-thirds vote of the executive committee is required to
terminate a member found guilty of violating ISG rules.
• Annual Membership fee: A fee of Rs. 250 have been introduced to support ISG operations
and activities.
As ISACA USJ embarks on this new journey, the focus remains on professional development, innovation and creating a dynamic platform for aspiring IT governance, risk management and cybersecurity professionals. The newly appointed executive committee is dedicated to organizing impactful events, workshops and training sessions that will enrich the learning experiences of all members.
With a strong team at the forefront, the upcoming year promises to be filled with new opportunities, collaborations, and milestones. The ISACA Student Group invites all students to actively participate, contribute, and grow together in this ever-evolving digital landscape.
